NUHEALTH’S GIANELLI, TO TEACH A DOWLING COLLEGE GRADUATE CLASS IN HEALTHCARE MANAGEMENT

EAST MEADOW, NY…Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, has been invited to return as an adjunct faculty member at Dowling College, where he will be teaching a graduate class in healthcare management, as part of Dowling College’s executive MBA program, for the spring semester from March 17th to May 12th, 2012.

Gianelli expects to cover various topics in his class including concentrating on a number of topics relating to healthcare and hospital management. His graduate course will explore the myriad human, economic, political, regulatory, technological and strategic challenges facing hospitals at a time of national health care reform, with an increasing focus on reducing excess inpatient capacity, the need to increase primary care, improve outcomes, sustain cost controls and achieve efficiencies. He will also review social insurance in the U.S., and recent healthcare reform efforts by President Obama and its implications.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to return to Dowling for a second year of teaching and look forward to continue to work with the faculty in providing graduate students with insights and knowledge regarding all areas of healthcare management, resulting from experience obtained during the last five years as the leader of a major multi-facility health system in Nassau County and in prior years, in a senior executive capacity overseeing significant budgets from municipalities in North Hempstead and Nassau County,” said Gianelli.  “I am gratified by the confidence placed in me by the Dowling College administration and look forward to this spring of teaching.”

Arthur A. Gianelli is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Nassau Health Care Corporation (d/b/a/ the NuHealth System), a $545 million teaching facility and public safety net provider which operates the Nassau University Medical Center and the A. Previously, Mr. Gianelli served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the NuHealth System.  He was appointed to this position on March 8, 2006.

For the prior ten years, Mr. Gianelli served in senior executive positions for two Long Island municipalities.  He was Deputy County Executive for Budget and Finance for Nassau County and Director of Operations for the Town of North Hempstead.

Mr. Gianelli serves on several boards of directors, including Regional Policy Council 2 of the American Hospital Association as well as the Executive Committees of Healthfirst and the National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems.  He has delivered presentations at conferences across the country on public hospitals, health reform, and public finance.  And he has received numerous professional, educational, and civic awards, most recently being designated by the Long Island Press as one of the 50 most influential Long Islanders in 2010.

Mr. Gianelli earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History from St. John’s University, a Master of Arts Degree in Political Science from Brown University, a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Dowling College, and a Masters Degree in Public Health from Columbia University.  Additionally, Mr. Gianelli teaches healthcare and hospital management to graduate students at Hofstra University, Dowling College, and Columbia University.
