NUHEALTH’S DR. GUITELLE ST. VICTOR ACCEPTED AS FELLOW OF THE AMERICAN PSYCHIATRIC ASSOCIATION
East Meadow, NY………..The department of psychiatry, under the leadership of Nyapati Rao, MD, MS, announces that Dr. Guitelle St. Victor, an attending psychiatrist at the Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC), has been accepted as a “Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (APA).” The ceremony will take place in May 2014 at the next annual APA meeting in New York City.
“The APA Board of Trustees, upon the recommendation of the Membership Committee, informed Dr. Guitelle St. Victor of her appointment to Fellow status in a letter dated December 10, 2013. “The honor of Fellow reflects your dedication to the work of the APA and the psychiatric profession. Best wishes for a long and distinguished career as a committed member of the APA,” stated Dr. Maria Oquendo, secretary to the APA board of trustees.
Dr. Rao extended his congratulations to Dr. St. Victor on behalf of the psychiatry and behavioral sciences department: “You are being recognized for your work and contributions to the field of psychiatry. We applaud you on this recognition, demonstrating your commitment to providing quality care to all your patients. On behalf of NUMC and the psychiatry department, please join us in wishing Dr. St. Victor best wishes and much continued success as “Fellow Status” in the American Psychiatric Association and throughout her career.”
Dr. Guitelle St. Victor was born and raised in Haiti where she completed high school and college in a 7 year-cycle. She then traveled to France where she attended medical school at the University of Montpellier; she graduated from the University of Montemorelos in Mexico. She then completed a residency in adult psychiatry at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital in New York and a fellowship in psychosomatic medicine at Long Island Jewish Hospital. Dr. St. Victor is the 6th psychiatrist in her family. She is currently a full time psychosomatic medicine attending psychiatrist at NUMC, where she also serves as clerkship director for medical students in Psychiatry. Her command of four languages is an asset, especially for the underserved populations that are serviced by the hospital.
“I am grateful and honored to have been selected as an APA Fellow. I am fortunate to be able to work with such a distinguished group at NUMC and I look forward to working with the APA professionals in furthering the APA mission,” stated Dr. St. Victor.
