NUHEALTH UPDATE #12—–NUMC ISSUES ALERT CONCERNING CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING

East Meadow, NY….Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, announces that since late last night Wednesday, October 31, 2012 to this morning, Thursday, November 1st, the Nassau University Medical Center’s Hyperbaric Chamber staff has treated 7 storm related carbon monoxide cases.

NUMC is the only multi-place hyperbaric chamber on the island, serving up to six persons at one time. We can expect a substantial number of carbon monoxide referrals into all NY area hospital emergency departments for hyperbaric chamber treatments over the next few days as a result of residents using charcoal to heat homes and gas generators to produce electrical power. We urge all Long Island residents to refrain from using their grills or their generators inside the house as carbon monoxide poisoning can be deadly.
