NUHEALTH UNVEILS NEWLY REMODELED MATERNITY FLOOR AT NUMC, MADE POSSIBLE THROUGH PHILANTHROPIC GIFT FROM HAGEDORN FOUNDATION TO NUHEALTH FOUNDATION
East Meadow, NY…….In showcasing the transformation of the maternity department at the Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC), NuHealth officials, along with the board of directors and Deidra Parrish Williams, executive director of the NuHealth Foundation, unveiled the newly remodeled family waiting room at NUMC, which was funded by the philanthropic support of Ms. Amy Hagedorn and the Hagedorn Foundation. The award-winning labor and delivery department at Nassau University Medical Center has undergone a beautiful renovation that now provides families an environment that is as beautiful as it is well run.
Steven J. Walerstein, MD, FACP, executive vice president for medical affairs and CMO, welcomed the numerous guests who had come to tour the remodeled facility, saying: “The department of OB/GYN has been recognized for the quality of care given, particularly in the areas of having the lowest C-section rates and the highest VBAC (vaginal births after C-section) rates. This is the beginning of providing them with a renovated facility that matches their superb clinical care.”
Ms. Parrish Williams thanked Ms. Hagedorn on behalf of the Foundation, noting that NuHealth still has a long way to go in establishing itself as a preferred option for funders. She noted: “We are especially proud to have the Hagedorn name adorning the halls of our institution. It is like a Good Housekeeping Seal that we hope signals to others what a sound and important philanthropic investment this is.”
Thanks also came from former patient, “Tammy”, who complimented the Labor and Delivery staff for being the only place that was willing to help her deliver her third child vaginally after having had two C-sections elsewhere. “I really wanted a vaginal birth so I came to NUMC because it has the lowest C-section rates,” she said with a radiant smile as she held her six-month old daughter Sophia in her arms. Sophia arrived as promised via vaginal delivery. “I had an amazing experience at NUMC, staff was amazing and I would encourage all women to deliver at NUMC,” Tammy said.
Ms. Hagedorn praised NUMC for the beautiful renovation. “I have watched NuHealth blossom through its leaderships’ vision and am glad to contribute to this transformation by funding the renovation of the OB/GYN Family Waiting Area.”
Following a breakfast, guests had the opportunity to meet former patients and the dedicated labor and delivery staff that has been recently saluted for its excellence, and is responsible for industry-leading outcomes for even the most high- risk pregnancies.
