NUHEALTH TO PARTICIPATE IN WOMEN GO RED AGAINST HEART DISEASE CAMPAIGN, AT NUMC ON FEBRUARY 4TH, BY PROVIDING HEALTH SCREENINGS AND ENCOURAGING STAFF TO WEAR SOMETHING RED

East Meadow, NY…Arthur A. Gianelli, NuHealth’s President/CEO, announced that the NuHealth System will, once again, participate in the Women Go Red Against Heart Disease Campaign, to bring attention to cardiovascular disease, the number one killer of women, by providing blood pressure screening and stroke awareness education in the main lobby of the Nassau University Medical Center on February 4th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and by encouraging staff to wear something red (a red dress, tie, jacket, scarf, hat or shirt) as a mark of recognition about women and heart disease.

“Heart disease in women has been totally under recognized and neglected,” explained Gianelli. “It is important to also underscore the fact that more women die of heart disease than the next five causes combined and we need to help prevent the more than 400,000 deaths that occur in women each year from cardiac arrest.”

Sanjay Doddamani, MD, NuHealth’s chair of the cardiology department, added: “The American Heart Association Go Red for Women Day is a massive national public awareness day urging the general public to “go red” to bring attention to cardiovascular disease and an opportunity for patients, doctors, nurses and the public to focus on prevention and to create awareness about this killer disease in women. Nassau University Medical Center and the North Shore-LIJ Health System partnered last year to bolster the NUMC department of cardiology with cutting edge resources and new physician leadership in an effort to improve cardiac care including  new programs in heart failure and implantable defibrillator therapy.”

The screenings are free, available without appointments, to employees, visitors and patients in the NUMC lobby on February 4th.
