WHY: Nassau County has suffered for years from a lack of outpatient mental health capacity for children and this new initiative is a big step in addressing that need. Children’s mental health problems cause distress not only for the child but also for family members. The NCFSS comprises a coordinated network of community based services and supports, that work together to meet the needs of children and youth with serious mental health needs and their families,  promoting their emotional wellbeing. The team offers clinically proven treatment interventions for disruptive behavior disorders, anger management group treatment and trauma focused cognitive behaviors so children who have emotional problems that have resulted in difficulties, can better cope with daily life.
