NUHEALTH SYSTEM RECRUITS ALAN S. MULTZ, MD, FACP, FCCP, FCCM, AS CHAIR OF MEDICINE AT NUMC
Multz has extensive leadership experience and expertise in the fields of internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care
East Meadow, NY – Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, announced the appointment of Alan S. Multz, MD, FACP, FCCP, FCCM, as chair of the department of medicine at the Nassau University Medical Center.
“We are delighted to have been successful in recruiting someone with Dr. Multz’s leadership qualities, expertise in the field of internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care, to assist us in fulfilling our mission and furthering the goals of the medicine department. One of Dr. Multz’s priorities will be to develop a hospitalist program and to explore new and innovative methods of medical education,” said Gianelli.
Dr. Multz was hired after an extensive search started several months ago. “He will be an exceptional leader among our team of internal medicine specialists who will build on our quality of care and patient safety focus,” added Steven J. Walerstein, MD, FACP, NuHealth’s executive vice president for medical affairs and medical director.
In his new role, Dr. Multz will oversee all divisions within the medicine department including nephrology, endocrinology, pulmonary, rheumatology, infectious diseases, hematology, oncology and gastroenterology.
Dr. Multz earned his medical degree from Boston University and completed an internship, his residency in internal medicine, and fellowships in pulmonary medicine and in critical care medicine, all at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Prior to being recruited at the Nassau University Medical Center, Dr. Multz was associate chair in the department of medicine and program director for internal medicine residency at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
Triple board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine, Dr. Multz’s research interests include the treatment of severe sepsis and early septic shock, ARDS and severe hypertension. He has written numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, abstracts, and book chapters. Dr. Multz is also a reviewer for Chest, Intensive Care Medicine, Journal of Critical Care Medicine, and Annals of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Multz has received twelve Teacher of the Year awards from Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He has also been given numerous “Best Doctor” awards from New York Magazine, America’s Best Doctors, and New York Metro Area. Dr. Multz is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, the American College of Physicians, and the American College of Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Multz resides in Woodbury with his family.
