“TAKE YOUR CHILD TO WORK DAY” ON APRIL 22, 2010 AT NUMC AND A. HOLLY PATTERSON EXTENDED CARE FACILITY

EAST MEADOW, NY Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, is pleased to announce, “Take Your Child to Work Day” on Thursday, April 22, 2010. Once again the Nuhealth System is proud to host over 200 children of NUMC and A. Holly Patterson staff members. The children will be touring various areas of the hospital and the nursing home in celebration of this day.

“This is both a rewarding and exciting way to help our adolescent children learn about health careers, to foster an interest in their education, build self-esteem, and to help them to understand their importance in the workforce,” said Gianelli. “Take your Child to Work Day 2010 at the NUMC is going to be an exciting and informative day for all involved. The Children will visit various areas of the hospital such as the ER. Here they will discover the process of an emergency from arriving in the ambulance, the trauma room, the various ER rooms, to being admitted to the hospital. They will visit the OB/Gyn area along with maternity. They will also take a look into the hyperbaric chamber.”

Children touring NUMC will visit the pediatric playroom and learn about recreation therapy and art therapy. The physical therapy gym will demonstrate the various machines they use in therapy including the electric stimulation machine and paraffin wax. Occupational therapy will also demonstrate the various adaptive equipment that they provide to the patients to help in functioning. The tour will also visit our on campus green house for an Earth Day project.  Lunch will be served by the food and nutrition department and the program will conclude in the gym with a craft for all to take home.

Gianelli added that the A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility staff’s children will experience presentations by the departments of nursing, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, speech therapy and food and nutrition. Activities will include Earth Day crafts, parent child photo opportunity, recreation room activities, the crowd pleasing main kitchen lunch assembly tray line, a professional magic show topped off with rainbow sherbet for all!!

Members of the press wishing to accompany the children while touring should call the public affairs office of NUMC at (516) 572-6055 to make arrangements.
