NUHEALTH SPONSORS TRAUMA CONFERENCE AT NUMC ON SEPTEMBER 19TH
East Meadow, NY……………..NuHealth’s department of nursing is sponsoring a trauma conference “Putting the Pieces Together” on September 19, 2013 from 8AM until 4:30PM in the amphitheater of the Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC). Designed for health care professionals and emergency services first responders, this conference will identify advances in trauma care and statistics, develop an understanding of the role of first responders while discussing the management of trauma patients in the emergency department.
The keynote speaker, L.D. George Angus, MD, MPH, FACS, director of trauma at NUMC, who has published extensively on trauma care, will lead the morning session with his lecture “Advances in Trauma Care, Lessons Learned”. Various lecture topics include trauma statistics, injury prevention, first responders and the role of the emergency department in putting the pieces together. There are several case presentations scheduled for the afternoon sessions with the experts highlighting a number of puzzles solved, involving a canine mauling, crush injury, genital mutilation, burn injury, PTSD and the handling of mass casualties.
“We urge health care professionals and first responders in emergency medical services to take advantage of this trauma conference whereby attendees will be able to obtain valuable information on the protocols and outcomes of selected trauma events that have occurred in the past year at the Nassau University Medical Center,” said Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System.
Steven J. Walerstein, MD, FACP, chief medical officer for the NuHealth System, indicated: “As a Level I trauma center, NUMC holds a special importance in the region in overall emergency medical response capabilities. NuHealth’s talented trauma surgeons are routinely faced with some very challenging cases that they will discuss during the conference, while providing a historical perspective on advances in trauma care.”
