NUHEALTH HURRICANE SANDY UPDATE #15 11/3/12 11:00AM
East Meadow, NY…..Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, provides the following update on the status of the Nassau University Medical Center, the A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility and the Family Health Centers:
NuHealth remains well above our normal census. NUMC is serving 546 admitted patients, while the census at A. Holly Patterson is approaching 600 residents.
We’ve been somewhat less hectic through most of the day, but we are just now starting to get hit in our ED with an influx of Long Beach residents recovered by FEMA and the National Guard. We are also still seeing numerous patients suffering from carbon poisoning.
Three of our four health centers will be fully operational on Monday. New Cassel remains without power. The outpatient practices at NUMC will start up in full again on Monday as well.
Walgreens is assisting our physicians in the dispensing of medication to patients we are seeing at the County shelters.
We have made a limited amount of fuel available to our essential clinical personnel who were concerned about running out of gas and being unable to get to the hospital to take care of their patients.
Human Resources Department has made available access to a number of services to support our employees who have had their lives turned upside down by the hurricane.
The Emergency Operations Center will be operational over the weekend, and we will remain at HICS Level 1 indefinitely. Management is very concerned about the drop in temperatures we will experience next week as well as the storm that is supposed to hit on Wednesday.
We thank our staff for their exemplary dedication and for their commitment to all our patients. I will continue to update you as events warrant.
