NUHEALTH FOUNDATION GREENHOUSE VOLUNTEERS RAISED $10,332.80 IN 2010, TO BENEFIT THE NASSAU UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER
East Meadow, NY… Volunteers who manage the greenhouse located on the NUMC campus, presented Deidra Parrish-Williams, Executive Director of the NuHealth Foundation, with a check for $10,332.80. These funds were raised during 2010 from the sale of plants and flowers to support the mission of NUMC.
Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, congratulated the volunteers who run the greenhouse, seven days a week, 365 days a year, rain or shine, snow or sleet, for their commitment to supporting the NuHealth Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the NuHealth System: “We thank you for your diligent fundraising efforts, helping to further our mission of providing quality care to Nassau’s vulnerable populations,” stated Gianelli. “We recognize those greenhouse volunteers who have given many hours of dedicated service by helping to raise $10,332.80 in 2010 to benefit our patients.”
During the last year, the greenhouse volunteers have worked over three thousand hours, equating to thousands and thousands of dollars of time value. In addition to the dozen adult volunteers, the greenhouse volunteer staff has been fortunate to have four BOCES hearing impaired students along with their teachers, help to grow plants and flowers.
In recognizing the significant time and skills contributions by the greenhouse volunteers, especially long time horticulturist, Vincent Piscitelli and Sharon Popper, its business manager, Deidra Parrish-Williams indicated: “This is the essence of community service. The greenhouse is a little known part of the NuHealth family; growing and selling fresh fruits, vegetables and plants all year round. These generous and dedicated volunteers are doing such a wonderful thing for this community. They are helping provide nourishment, and by donating proceeds from their sales to the NuHealth Foundation, they are helping the health system carry out its mission to provide the best possible health care to our patients.”
