NuHealth Celebrates 17th Annual Staff Recognition Awards Dinner

East Meadow, N.Y., October 6th, 2022 – Nassau University Medical Center hosted its 17th annual Staff Recognition Awards Dinner on September 14th, 2022. The event, organized by the NuHealth Foundation, recognizes staff who have given 5 or more years of service to NuHealth facilities and honors exceptional employees with the Earl Stroughten Award.

Nassau Health Care Corporation held its 17th annual Staff Recognition Awards Dinner on September 14th, 2022 at Leonard’s Palazzo, in Great Neck. The ceremony recognizes staff for their excellence in the medical profession and honors employees of exceptional merit and tenure at Nassau University Medical Center, A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility, and all NuHealth-affiliated programs and centers.

This year, the Earl Stroughten Award for exceptional employee performance was awarded to Frank Vargas, a Radiology Tech at Nassau University Medical Center, and Andrea Acquavella, Director of Environmental Services at A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility. To receive this award, employees must first be nominated by the general staff. Employees are encouraged to nominate their coworkers who display exemplary work ethic. Then, a committee selects the most deserving recipients who best demonstrate the attributes set forth by former employee and Union President, Earl Stroughton, himself.

According to his colleagues, Mr. Vargas has been a pillar of the Radiology Department since he started in 2008. Mr. Vargas works in the Cat Scan and Special Procedures Unit, where he is always kind and compassionate to patients. He takes the time to answer questions and explains every procedure so patients are at ease when receiving their test. He received recognition for the excellent leadership he provides to new employees, coworkers and students by teaching procedures with patience and confidence.

Ms. Acquevella has proven herself to be a hard worker who takes extreme pride in her service and encourages others to do so as well. With more than 20 years of tenure with NuHealth, she is always encouraging and supportive of her staff. According to her peers, there is no task that too small for Andrea. She is always willing to lend a hand when needed and is always kind and compassionate to her residents.

The Staff Recognition Awards also celebrate staff who have served 5 years or more at NuHealth facilities. Pins are awarded to staff in five-year increments, with additional gifts for service over 25 and 35 years.  In 2022, 648 total staff members received pins. 163 staff members were awarded for twenty or more years of employment with NuHealth, with four employees celebrating 45 years. The number of long-term employees, as well as the length of their employment, is a testament to our collective dedication to Nassau County and the communities we serve.

NuHealth congratulates Frank Vargas and Andrea Acquevella on this year’s award and thanks all of our awardees for their continued service to their peers and their patients.
