NHCC’S  COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS EXPERIENCED 6% AVERAGE VOLUME GROWTH IN 2007, DEMONSTRATING BEGINNINGS OF TURNAROUND OF AMBULATORY SITES, ACHIEVED AS A RESULT OF COMMITMENT TO IMPROVING SERVICES AND RESTORING CONFIDENCE FROM THE COMMUNITY

East Meadow, NY….. Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation (NHCC) announced that the safety net health system’s six Community Health Centers had experienced an average 6% volume growth in 2007.

“The average 6% volume growth in our health centers demonstrates the beginnings of the turnaround of our ambulatory care sites, achieved as a result of our commitment to improving health services for Nassau’s most vulnerable population.  Under the inspiring leadership of Dr. Mitchell Rubin, Vice President of Ambulatory Care and Community Medicine and his dedicated staff, the health centers’ volume has increased from 65,415 visits to 69,128 visits in 2007, “stated Mr. Gianelli.

The health centers, located in the communities of Elmont, Freeport/Roosevelt, Hempstead, Inwood, New Cassel and Roosevelt school-based center, play an essential role in providing primary and specialty outpatient care to Medicaid and uninsured patients.  “The increased volume was achieved following the implementation, a year ago, of an improved services reform plan as part of an overall strategic plan for the six centers, including modifying hours of operation, improving patient appointment systems, capital improvements, expansion of services and patient satisfaction surveys,” added Dr. Rubin in praising the staff for the volume increase.

In addition to the 69,128 outpatient visits in the health centers, the Nassau Health Care Corporation provided over 214,000 outpatient visits at the Nassau University Medical Center outpatient centers and 72,000 emergency room visits during 2007.

“While much remains to be achieved in our health centers in 2008, we are committed to the construction of two new health centers in Hempstead and in Roosevelt, the creation of a Department of Community Medicine with dedicated primary care physicians, the development of physician practices and further reduction of wait times, all with the goal of addressing historic deficiencies, restoring confidence in the community and continuing to fulfill our mission to the residents of Nassau County, particularly those who remain under-served and vulnerable,” concluded Mr. Gianelli.
