NHCC HOSTS EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COURSE, HIGHLIGHTING IMPORTANCE OF NASSAU UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER’S ROLE IN THE COMMUNITY IN MANAGING OR REACTING TO A NATURAL OR MAN-MADE EVENT

East Meadow, NY…Nassau Health Care Corporation recently hosted an emergency management course, highlighting the importance of Nassau University Medical Center’s role in managing or reacting to a natural or man-made event.

The course titled “Planning and Protecting Medical/Hospital Infrastructure and Personnel” brings together those emergency management personnel from within a jurisdiction who would be required to manage or react to a natural or man-made event within their community as it relates to the medical and hospital infrastructure and its personnel.  Participants represent medical and hospital staff and those who share a supporting role in mass casualty, mass fatality and surge capacity events within a jurisdiction.

Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation praised the instructors from Texas Engineering and Extension Services, who chose NUMC as the site to hold this course, which will become available nationwide in September 2008:  “The course provided a unique opportunity for attendees to acquire the knowledge, skills and qualities necessary to help them protect the public, infrastructure, medical staff and co-workers from the effects of a large scale natural or man-made event in their community.”  The course participants, coupled with their extensive professional experience, work together in multi-discipline teams to apply the information presented during the course in a variety of small group activities and discussions

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be better qualified to participate in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from a natural or man-made incident which impacts their facilities, systems, employees, and ability to care for incident victims.  During the program, Paul Rowland, Chief Operating Officer for the Nassau Health Care Corporation, spoke to the attendees, addressing the importance of their attendance and of NHCC’s role in the community.
