East Meadow, NY…..Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation announced the March 21, 2009 Women’s Health Conference on HIV-AIDS/Cardiac Disease in which Michelle Paterson, New York State’s First Lady, will be the keynote speaker.

“We are honored to welcome First Lady Michelle Paterson to our conference at NUMC, sponsored by the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, LI Chapter and the NHCC’s Institute for Healthcare Disparities.  The conference, with Michelle Patterson as keynote speaker, will also feature dynamic presentations by Drs. Janice Verley and Alosyoius Cuyjet with a goal to educate participants about health issues impacting minority populations and emphasis on NHCC’s ongoing efforts to increase utilization and access to health care for Nassau’s vulnerable populations,” stated Gianelli.

The National Coalition of 100 Black Women consists of more than 7,000 members in 63 chapters located in 24 states and the District of Columbia.  The organization advocates on behalf of women of color through local and national actions and strategic alliances that promote leadership development on gender equity in health, education and economic development.

In 2008, Gianelli served on an expert panel in a community forum held by the Long Island Chapter to educate participants about health issues impacting minority populations as well as ongoing efforts to increase utilization and access to health care.

Dr. Verley has also worked with the Long Island Chapter in previous years to educate the community about the impact of HIV/AIDS, preventive measures and treatment.  Dr. Cuyjet has lectured extensively on heart disease with a focus on creating awareness about heart disease and its impact on underserved women.
