East Meadow, NY………Nassau University Medical Center is proud to announce the inclusion of Marianne Frieri, MD, PhD, FACAAI, FAAAAI, NUMC’s chief of allergy/immunology in the Best Doctors in America for 2007-2008.
While congratulating Dr. Frieri on being included in such a prestigious list, Arthur A. Dr. Frieri obtained her undergraduate degree a the University of Buffalo, NY in 1967, followed by a masters degree in biology at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY and doctorate degree in microbiology from the University of Health Science Chicago Medical School, in Chicago, IL in 1976. She taught graduate school at Northwestern University evening division and Chicago Medical School, prior to entering medical school in 1976, and obtaining an MD degree from Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago. Dr. Frieri completed her post-graduate residency training in internal medicine at St. Joseph Hospital, an affiliate of Northwestern University Medical Center in 1980, completed a fellowship in allergy immunology in the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at the National Institute of Health in 1983, prior to becoming the director of clinical immunology and allergy immunology training in Nassau University Medical Center. She is triple board certified in internal medicine, allergy immunology and diagnostic laboratory immunology. Dr. Frieri is a professor of medicine and pathology at SUNY, Stony Brook. Currently chief of allergy immunology in the department of medicine, she teaches residents, medical students and is also on the staff at NSLIJ and the faculty at NYCOM.
Dr. Frieri has been an active member of the National American Academy Allergy Asthma Immunology (AAAAI) and American College of Allergy and Asthma Immunology (ACAAI) since 1983, past board of regents member for the ACAAI, current chair of the autoimmune committee and past chair of the women’s committee, and member for the grand review committee for the AAAAI. She is past – president of the Long Island Allergy and Immunology Society and has served as a special advisory member for the FDA.
Dr. Frieri has trained over 55 specialists in allergy immunology from both pediatric and medicine backgrounds and has supervised graduate students in medical biology since 1983 in basic science research. At NUMC, she has been program director for Annual Allergy Immunology Teaching Day for physicians and medical students since 1986. Since 1991, Dr. Frieri established various support groups and community outreach programs related to allergy, asthma, immunology, arthritis, and autoimmune disease. Her publications include more than 80 review articles, original manuscripts and 140 abstracts with emphasis on HIV, asthma, and autoimmune disease.
The selection process was a year-long process, with 1.5 million evaluations annually in the country, leading to only 5% of the doctors in the US actually selected to become best doctors. Continuous peer-to-peer surveys identifies specialists who are considered by fellow physicians to be the most skilled in their fields and most qualified for reviewing and treating complex medical conditions. The polling process is anonymous and confidential, qualitative and quantitative. It provides detailed profiles of each physician, including his or her practice, research programs and diagnostic and treatment procedures. Doctors in more than 400 subspecialties of medicine are surveyed.
