Prior to becoming Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Nassau University Medical Center in January 2007, Dr. Faust had been the Chief in the division of Vascular Surgery in the Department of Surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Prior to that position, Dr. Faust had served as the Associate Program director in the General Surgery Residency Program at the North Shore/LIJ Health System. Dr. Faust graduated from the Yale University School of Medicine and completed his residency in General Surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, NY. From 1991 to 1992, Dr. Faust completed his fellowship in Vascular Surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Certified by the American Board of Surgery with a Certificate of Special Qualification in Vascular Surgery, Dr. Faust, who is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Albert Einstein College of medicine, is active in the New York Cardiovascular Society and is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Faust has received numerous awards, including being named Outstanding Surgical Attending and Teacher of the Year by General Surgery Residents at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and being included in the 2001, 2005 and 2006 New York Magazine Best Doctors in New York. Active in many community organizations and having published extensively, Dr. Faust has served on numerous hospital committees at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. His clinical interests in vascular medicine range from carotid artery disease and aneurysm repair to the management of venous diseases, including varicosities. One of Dr. Faust’s priorities is to develop a Center of Excellence in Diabetes, Hypertension and Vascular Medicine at NUMC in early 2008.
The selection process was a year-long process, with questionnaires sent to 16,000 top physicians in the New York area. Nominees were sought in almost every specialty, with the emphasis on direct patient care. Varied criteria were used to determine physician eligibility for inclusion for professional qualifications including education, residency, board certification fellowships and professional reputation including hospital appointment, medical school faculty appointment, experience and disciplinary history as well as interpersonal skills.
