NASSSAU UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER’S DOMINICK SABATINO, MD, INCLUDED IN LIST OF TOP DOCTORS IN THE NEW YORK AREA

Nassau University Medical Center is proud to announce the inclusion of Dominick Sabatino, MD, Director of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, in Castle Connolly’s Guide Top Doctors:  New York Metro Area, 11th edition..

Dominick Sabatino, MD, Director Pediatric Hematology/Oncology is a graduate of the University of Bologna, Italy, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.  He is board certified in both pediatrics and pediatric hematology/oncology, and since 1988, has served as director of pediatric hematology/oncology at NUMC.  Prior to joining the medical staff at NUMC, Dr. Sabatino was the associate director of pediatric hematology/oncology at The Long Island College Hospital, Brooklyn, NY and assistant professor of clinical pediatrics at SUNY, Health Sciences Center, School of Medicine, Brooklyn. He is presently a professor of clinical pediatrics at SUNY Stonybrook, School of Medicine.  Dr. Sabatino is the author/contributor to several books, articles and abstracts.  His particular area of expertise is hemoglobin disorders, and he was instrumental in establishing the first comprehensive Cooley’s anemia program in Brooklyn, NY in 1973.

Dr. Sabatino is the recipient of many honors, including: Lifetime Achievement Award from the Cooley’s Anemia Foundation, Inc., Clinical Pioneer Award from the Sickle-Thalassemia Patients Network, and the Avron Ross faculty teaching award. His many professional memberships include: American Academy of Pediatrics; Nassau Pediatric Society,  American Academy Pediatrics/Subsection Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, NYS Genetic Sickle Cell Network, Cooleys Anemia Foundation, Inc, and the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America.  Dr. Sabatino is listed in: Marquis Who’s Who in American Medicine and Healthcare, 60th edition; Castle Connolly’s Guide: Top Doctors: New York Area, 2004-2007, and is being considered for inclusion in Cambridge Who’s Who Among Executives and Professionals in Teaching & Education, 2007-2008.

The selection process was a year long process, with questionnaires sent to 16,000 top physicians in the New York area.  Nominees were sought in almost every specialty, with the emphasis on direct patient care.  Varied criteria were used to determine physician eligibility for inclusion for professional qualifications including education, residency, board certification fellowships and professional reputation including hospital appointment, medical school faculty appointment, experience and disciplinary history as well as interpersonal skills.
