NASSAU UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER’S ALAN S. MULTZ, MD, FACP, FCCP, FCCM, RECEIVES ACADEMIC APPOINTMENT AS PROFESSOR IN THE DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE AT THE HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NORTH SHORE-LIJ HEALTH SYSTEM

Highest academic rank that one can achieve, resulting from academic achievement, scholarly activities, publications, excellence in teaching and national recognition

East Meadow, NY – Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, announced that  Alan, MD, FACP, FCCP, FCCM , chair of the department of medicine at the Nassau University Medical Center has received an academic appointment as professor in the department of medicine at the Hofstra University, School of Medicine, in partnership with the North Shore – LIJ Health System, for an initial five-year inaugural appointment, effective as of October 1, 2009.
 
In a letter dated November 6, 2009, Stuart Rabinowitz, President of Hofstra University, welcomed Dr. Multz and said:  “I would like to extend a warm welcome to you as you join the faculty at the School of Medicine, and we are so pleased you will be joining us at this important time.  We look forward to your active participation in all of the academic activities of the School of medicine.”
 
Gianelli congratulated Dr. Multz on his inaugural appointment: “You are to be congratulated on this well-deserved appointment, the highest academic rank that one can achieve, resulting from academic achievement, scholarly activities, publications, excellence in teaching and national recognition.”
           
Dr. Multz previously held an academic appointment of professor of clinical medicine at Einstein.
 
Steven J. Walerstein, MD, executive vice president for medical affairs at the NuHealth System joined Gianelli in expressing his congratulations: “This is a significant and prestigious academic achievement, where between now and the opening of the medical school, you will have the opportunity to help develop the curriculum for the new Hofstra University School of Medicine and during your five-year term, you will work with medical students as a teacher and mentor.”
 
Dr. Multz indicated:  “I am honored to have been given an inaugural academic appointment at the Hofstra School of Medicine, in partnership with the North Shore-LIJ Health System, and look forward to working with the medical school and the students, now and in the future, with the first class anticipated to begin in the fall of 2011.
