FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

NASSAU UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER TO HOLD COMPLIMENTARY SEMINAR ON THURSDAY MAY 7, 2009, FOR DOCTORS’ OFFICE MANAGERS, ON APGs (AMBULATORY PATIENT GROUPS) AND ON MEDICARE’S RECOVERY AUDIT CONTRACTORS

East Meadow, New York…The Nassau University Medical Center will offer an educational seminar, on Thursday May 7, 2009 at 8:45 AM in the NUMC Auditorium, intended for doctors’ office managers to learn about the new method of billing Medicaid services under APGs (Ambulatory Patient Groups) and on Medicare’s Recovery Audit Contractors.

“Since New York State Medicaid will no long reimburse outpatient claims under old payment methodologies, we urge all office managers working in community doctor’s offices to attend this  informative session and learn the basics of how to navigate the new system of reimbursement,” said John Sherman, NUMC’s Director of Revenue Cycle Management. .

APGs is the first major change to the New York Medicaid outpatient reimbursement system in more than twenty years.  Providers will need to make significant changes to their billing and coding systems whenever billing outpatient Medicaid services.  Effective December 1, 2008, the enhanced APGs billing and payment system was implemented by NYS Medicaid for outpatient clinic and ambulatory surgery services. Participants will also learn about the three year demonstration project using private sector contractors, to detect and correct improper payments from fee-for-service Medicare.

Guest speakers participating in the educational seminar include managers from Financial Medical Systems, Inc. and Complete Management Solutions, LLC.  Office managers interested in attending this complimentary educational seminar on May 7, 2009, can e-mail: jsherma1@numc.edu.
