Nassau University Medical Center Announces Opening of New Colorectal Screening and Reflux Clinics to Promote Early Detection of Colon Cancer and Stomach Conditions
EAST MEADOW, NY) – Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) is proud to announce the launch of two new specialty clinics, expanding access to vital services for the community.
The new Colorectal Screening Clinic is now seeing patients every Monday morning. Conveniently located on the first floor alongside NUMC’s other surgical clinics, the Colorectal Screening Clinic is dedicated to early detection and prevention of various conditions including Colon Cancer. Each year in the United States approximately 150,000 people will be diagnosed with colon cancer and approximately one-third will die from the disease. Data clearly shows early detection through screenings play a critical role in successful treatment and survival rates. The new clinic will perform endoscopies under sedation by appointment performed by NUMC’s skilled physicians and medical residents. To schedule an appointment with Colorectal Screening Clinic, please call 516-572-6703.
Additionally, under the leadership of Dr. Venkatesh, NUMC has opened a specialized Reflux Clinic to treat patients experiencing acid reflux and related conditions. The clinic operates on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings on the 6th floor of the hospital. Dr. Venkatesh and the NUMC team are focused on delivering effective, patient-centered care for reflux management, offering diagnosis, treatment plans, and support for long-term relief. Gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD can be caused by a variety of conditions of the digestive system and left untreated can lead to esophageal cancer and other complications. Individuals experiencing reflux or heartburn more than twice per week should consider getting screened. To schedule an appointment with Reflux Clinic, please call 516-572-6703.
“These new clinics have the potential to serve thousands of patients to help detect both common and life threatening conditions. NUMC is joining the fight against colon cancer with this new capability and as so many struggle with maintaining a healthy diet, conditions effecting the digestive tract are on the rise. These new services are yet another example of NUMC’s continuing efforts to increase its capabilities for our growing patient population,” said Megan Ryan, President, CEO and Chief Legal Officer for Nassau Health Care Corporation (NHCC). “Our team is committed to providing accessible, high-quality services that make a real difference in the lives of those we serve, regardless of their ability to pay.”
NUMC continues to prioritize access to advanced specialty care for residents of Nassau County and beyond. In August 2024, NUMC officially opened its new Community Outreach Center, a first-of-its kind operation that features a food pantry, provide assistance for Medicaid enrollment, offer career development initiatives, and prescription education, among other programs and services. NUMC also recently expanded evening hours for general, pediatric, and women’s health clinic services, now available every Tuesday and Wednesday from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
