FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

NASSAU UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER ANNOUNCES
OPENING OF INTERNATIONAL TRAVELERS IMMUNIZATION CENTER

EAST MEADOW, NY… Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, is pleased to announce the opening of the International Travel and Immunization Center at the Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC). “We are delighted to be able to offer this very needed service to the community, especially to those seeking to travel abroad and needing to obtain travel medical information. The clinic is devoted to serving the medical needs of children and adult travelers by the promotion of international health through education, prevention and treatment,” said Gianelli.

Brinda Doraiswamy, MD, an experienced travel and pediatric infectious disease specialist will be overseeing the new center. Assistance will be offered for those planning a trip.  Scheduling a consultation will allow travelers to obtain medical information on the country they wish to visit, as well as receive the vaccinations that are required. “With the summer travel season approaching, this truly is a beneficial opportunity for community members who are planning vacations in the upcoming months to be able to obtain the required vaccinations,” said Dr. Doraiswamy.

Numerous vaccinations are offered by the travel center including, hepatitis A, JE, meningococcal, typhoid and yellow fever. Healthy lifestyle vaccines may also be given at this time for shingles, HPV, influenza, hepatitis A & B, and Tdap. Travelers may also receive prescriptions including those for prophylaxis and travelers diarrhea.

The cost of travel vaccines is not covered by medical insurance. As a result, there is a consultation and administration fee for each vaccine. Cash, personal checks or credit cards are accepted by the travel and immunization center.

Please call (516) 572- 8811 to receive further information, or to schedule an appointment. The center is located at NUMC, 2201 Hempstead Turnpike East Meadow, New York 11550, in room MP 116 of the pediatric clinic area.
