NASSAU HEALTH CARE FOUNDATION RECEIVES $188,665 GIFT FROM DR. ROBERT VON TAUBER AND OLGA VON TAUBER, MD, TRUST, TO IMPROVE NUMC’S DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY
PARTIAL DISTRIBUTION FROM APPROXIMATELY $350,000 2006 BEQUEST, TO ESTABLISH AND INITIATE ACTIVITIES OF THE VON TAUBER INSTITUTE FOR THE STUDY OF PSYCHIATRY AS A GLOBAL PROFESSION
East Meadow, NY……Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, announced that the Nassau Health Care Foundation, (NHCF), the medical education and research foundation for the NuHealth System, also known as the Nassau Health Care Corporation, has received a partial distribution gift amounting to $188,665 from the Dr. Robert Von Tauber and Olga Von Tauber, MD, Revocable Trust, to enhance the department of psychiatry at the Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC).
“We are very pleased and grateful that the department of psychiatry at NUMC is the beneficiary of a revocable trust of approximately $350,000, with an initial partial distribution of $188,665 being made to the NHCF to be used solely and exclusively to improve the department of psychiatry programs, memorialized in the names of Dr. Robert Von Tauber and Olga Von Tauber, MD,” stated Gianelli. “This bequest will be used to establish and initiate activities of the Von Tauber Institute for the Study of Psychiatry as Global Profession (VTIP), helping to embrace and understand the internationalization of the American psychiatric profession, while delivering effective and comprehensive care to the diverse populations in the public mental health setting.”
The NHCF is a not-for-profit corporation exercising its powers in furtherance of its charitable, scientific and educational purposes in accordance with Section 501 ( C ) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. The Foundation’s purpose is limited to supporting, maintaining and otherwise benefitting and being responsive to the needs and objectives of the NUMC, the A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility and related facilities operated by the Nassau Health Care Corporation, also known as the NuHealth System.
The trustees will work in conjunction with Nyapati Rao, MD, chair of the department of psychiatry at NUMC, to establish the VTIP. ” We are very excited by this generous gift which will provide an intellectual arm to our department, bringing new ideas and practices, and help us to further improve the care for our culturally diverse population,” said Dr. Rao. “It will also enhance the scholarly potential of the psychiatry department through interactions with leaders in the profession and provide us with an ability to pursue other growth promoting projects through grant seeking.”
In addition to establishing the VTIP, the funds will provide for a research and grants manager for the VTIP, help to sponsor a VTIP annual conference on global psychiatry and will ensure that the chairmanship for the department of psychiatry will be named the Von Tauber Chair of Psychiatry.
