NASSAU HEALTH CARE CORPORATION’S NURSING STUDENT SUMMER PAID INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Paid opportunity to enhance nursing knowledge and clinical experience with clinical assignments, classroom lectures, discussions, case presentations
and nursing simulation laboratory

East Meadow, New York…Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation announced that the NHCC Student Nurse Paid Internship Program, designed to enrich the lives of student nurses entering their senior year, will once again, provide a paid opportunity to enhance nursing knowledge and clinical experience with clinical assignments, classroom lectures, discussions, case presentations and nursing simulation laboratory.  “Nursing students will work with registered nurses and provide basic care for patients.  Additional opportunities to observe and assist the healthcare team will be incorporated into this experience. This program is designed to provide the student nurse with an opportunity to enhance his/her clinical judgment while working with a team of professional staff.  Emphasis will be placed on the foundations of nursing practice, including basic physical assessment and technical skills, organization, priority of patient care, and critical thinking,” stated Mr. Gianelli.

The program, under the leadership of Julie Mirkin, MA, RN, Senior Vice President for Patient Care Services, will provide students the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to the clinical setting by:
Increasing the ability to work with multiple health care teams
Observe clinical areas of choice
Document in the medical record utilizing the nursing process
Perform selected procedures and treatments under the supervision of a clinical resource nurse
Observe selected procedures and diagnostic tests as arranged.

Requirements for this program are as follows:

Currently enrolled and in good standing in a nursing education program preparing registered professional nurses.
Successful completion of student rotation in Medical/ Surgical area.
Two letters of recommendation from clinical faculty.
Official transcript
Successful completion of hospital orientation.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in basic nursing skills.

This internship is available in a wide range of clinical areas:  Intensive Care, Emergency Department, Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, Maternal/Child, Pediatrics, and Ambulatory Care.
