FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

East Meadow, New York…..Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation announced that as a result of the generous support by donors and foundations, the NHCC had successfully raised $739,000 in gross contributions and pledges, netting $612,000 after expenses for the year 2007.

“Thanks to the generous support in 2007 by friends of Nassau’s safety net health care system, we have successfully raised the largest amount ever generated from philanthropic sources for the Nassau Health Care Corporation,” said Mr. Gianelli.  “Our supporters’ benevolence will help us better serve our diverse communities and touch the life of every patient. It is also important to note that while we are grateful for our successful 2007 fundraising efforts, these efforts are just a beginning as we do not yet have in place the not-for-profit fundraising organization that will begin systematically raising funds in 2008 on behalf of the Nassau health Care Corporation,” added Mr. Gianelli.

The funds raised in 2007 do not include “in-kind” or non cash donations and are designated for specific purposes and departments at Nassau University Medical Center.  The net revenue of approximately $245,000 from the 2007 Gala is earmarked for the Center for Hypertension, Diabetes and Vascular Medicine while the Golf Outing proceeds of $41,000 will be directed to the Emergency Department.  The Nassau County Firefighters Burn Center Foundation donated $120,000 for the soon to be opened new Burn Center at NUMC.  The National Mah Jongg League Foundation has pledged $174,000 for the purchase of stereotactic digital breast imaging equipment, saving lives by helping to better detect breast tumors.  The East Meadow Chamber of Commerce donated $13,000 from their Culinary Delights event for the purchase of a vein finder to benefit babies, while the East Meadow Kiwanis Club raised $6,000 for the renovation of the pediatric playroom.  The Concerned Lawyers Coalition raised $2,500 for the recently opened Institute for Healthcare Disparities.  The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce donated $10,000 from their Miracle Day proceeds for the benefit of the NUMC pediatric patients.

Mr. Gianelli concluded by thanking all those who contributed in some way to NHCC’s fundraising successes in 2007:  “In particular, it is important to recognize the contributions of the NUMC Auxiliary, Helen Lavas, Shelley Lotenberg, Michael Ade, Jack O’Connell, Board of Directors member Greg-Patric Martello and everyone who served on committees, volunteered their time or donated funds.   We are privileged to have supporters who are committed to helping us sustain our standard of clinical excellence by their hard work and their benevolence.”
