FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
NASSAU HEALTH CARE CORPORATION REOPENS HEMPSTEAD COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER AT A LARGER, RENOVATED AND EASILY ACCESSIBLE CENTER AT 135 MAIN STREET IN HEMPSTEAD, SERVING AS A CATALYST FOR IMPROVED, COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH AND DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES FOR NHCC’S VULNERABLE POPULATIONS AND SERVING AS THE CENTERPIECE OF NHCC’S EFFORTS TO REVITALIZE HEALTH CARE EFFORTS ON BEHALF OF UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES
CENTRAL LOCATION IN HEMPSTEAD VILLAGE, PROVIDING EASY ACCESS TO PATIENTS AND STAFF, BY LIRR STATION, HEMPSTEAD BUS TERMINAL, WITH MUNICIPAL PARKING AVAILABLE NEARBY
East Meadow, NY….Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation announced that the Hempstead Community Health Center, previously located at 100 Main Street, had reopened at a larger renovated and more easily accessible building centrally located at 135 Main Street, Hempstead.
“Moving to a larger, newer and more accessible location is an investment in the health care needs of the community and an essential effort to address the disparities in health care affecting minority residents of Nassau County. As a safety-net health care system and an essential provider for vulnerable communities, NHCC plays a key role in the prevention, detection and management of diseases that disproportionately impact underserved communities,” said Mr. Gianelli.
The newly reopened center will be housed on the first floor of a multi-use, three story building of low and middle income, predominately senior housing. The site had been previously used by Signature Health as a health clinic, thus only requiring a cosmetic face lift and minor non-structural changes, with low build-out costs and little disruption in moving from the previous location at 100 Main Street.
Comprehensive services such as pediatrics, internal medicine, OB/GYN, podiatry, hypertension clinic, radiology services, family planning, pre-natal care assistance, referrals to local dental facilities and to a host of subspecialty and specialty services at the Nassau University Medical Center will be available. The mammography van will also be available at various times throughout the year. An eye care and dental facilities are in the stages of development for the near future at this site. In addition to family planning and PCAP, the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program will be established at this newly opened center to better serve moms and their babies and ensure optimal health and nutrition for this vulnerable population.
Mitchell Rubin, MD, NHCC, VP of Ambulatory and Community Medicine and Chair of the Department of Community Medicine was delighted with the improved location: “We will be able to offer more comprehensive primary and sub-specialty services to the various communities that we serve, helping to improve their access to health care, their health status and outcomes for our outpatient population.”
Mr. Gianelli concluded by stating: “The new center, in a great central location in the heart of the Village of Hempstead, will serve as a catalyst for improved comprehensive health and diagnostic services for NHCC’s underinsured and vulnerable populations and serve as the centerpiece for NHCC’s efforts to revitalize our health care efforts on behalf of our underserved communities.”
