NASSAU HEALTH CARE CORPORATION MESSAGE TO PATIENTS REGARDING H1N1 (SWINE) FLU

East Meadow, New York….The Nassau University Medical Center and its facilities are following guidance from local and state health departments, and CDC, on the management and treatment of suspected cases.

Our community health centers, NUMC-based clinics and hospital are prepared to care for these cases. 

We are advising our patients who believe they may be ill or have mild illness to stay home and contact their health care provider.  If you are not ill with symptoms that you would normally not go to your doctor with, please:
 
stay home
practice increased hand washing
don’t go to work/school if your are ill
stay home for 7 days after your symptoms began OR until 24 hours after your symptoms stop

Risk factors for illness with H1N1 are

Aged 5 years old and younger
Aged 65 years and older
Persons w chronic illnesses such as chronic lung disease, diabetes, HIV. 

NUMC and its facilities are not routinely testing for H1N1 (swine) flu unless medically necessary.
