Nassau Health Care Corporation Celebrates 32,000 Vaccines Administered to Date

March 29, 2021

East Meadow, N.Y., March 29, 2021 – Nassau Health Care Corporation (NHCC), a leading healthcare provider serving Nassau County, Suffolk County, and parts of Queens, has successfully delivered more than 32,000 first and second dose vaccinations to eligible individuals through their public vaccination clinic.

NHCC is proud to update Nassau County’s residents on the continued success of our vaccination campaign. We would like to thank the government officials, institutional partners, and community members who have partnered with us to coordinate the vaccination of eligible individuals, including healthcare workers, first responders, senior citizens, veterans, and educators. We are also grateful to our healthcare professionals who oversee and operate our clinic, including Dr. Grace Ting, head of the vaccination program; Mary Harms, who oversees clinic operations; Dr. Michael Knee, the program’s pharmacist, and our staff whose hard work ensures the clinic is open to the public daily.

As of March 29th, 2021, NHCC had successfully administered 32,000 first and second doses since the clinic’s opening in December 2020, as well as 19,300 first doses. One of NHCC’s own long-term nurses was the first person to be vaccinated in Nassau County. Now, 81% of NHCC’s healthcare workers are fully vaccinated. Since the clinic’s launch, there have been zero incidents of serious adverse reaction to the vaccine.

The clinic’s operation is made possible by the 25+ healthcare professionals from various departments who greet and register patients, conduct COVID-19 screenings, administer doses, and monitor patient wellness post-vaccination. Additionally, the clinic is indebted to the many retired NHCC doctors and nurses who selflessly volunteer their time. Thanks to their dedication, NHCC is able to administer hundreds of doses per day, including the 929 doses distributed on February 14th—the clinic’s busiest day to date.

As part of the clinic, NHCC proudly operates a veterans’ vaccination program in partnership with Nassau County’s Veterans Service Agency Director, Ralph Esposito. The program has consistently administered 300+ doses weekly since opening on March 11th. One of NHCC’s nurses, himself a veteran, administered the program’s first dose and marked NHCC’s 15,000th vaccination. Veterans who would like to receive the vaccine are encouraged to contact Ralph Esposito via phone, at (516) 572-6512 or email, at resposito1@nassaucountyny.gov, to register. Vaccinations are available during the clinics extended operating hours or through special group appointments on the weekend.

NHCC has also prioritized facilitating access to vaccines for minority communities who are at greater risk to contract COVID-19. These communities also face disproportionate linguistic and economic barriers to the vaccine. As part of this effort, we have partnered with public high schools in the Towns of Hempstead, Uniondale, Roosevelt, and East Meadow to vaccinate educators and staff. Further, the Korean cultural program at the A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility conducted outreach to Nassau County’s Korean community. They provided translators to assist with registration and facilitated communication between healthcare workers and patients during appointments. So far, NHCC has administered 110 vaccines to individuals through A. Holly Patterson’s Korean program. Similar outreach will soon be conducted to improve vaccine access for Nassau County’s Chinese and Indian communities.

NHCC continues to work tirelessly to streamline the process of registering for and scheduling appointments for eligible candidates. To achieve this, the clinic has extended operating hours to maximize availability and ensure access to working individuals. Further, NHCC makes daily improvements to the vaccination registration process. In addition to reducing wait times for online registration, NHCC is conducting community and direct outreach to individuals 65 and over who may have difficulty accessing and utilizing the online tool.

It is our top priority to provide the public with a simple, secure, safe, and comfortable vaccination process. Nassau Health Care Corporation has been and remains committed to providing our community with accessible and equitable healthcare, including COVID-19 vaccines.

The clinic is currently open from 6am to 10pm on weekdays and from 8am to 8pm on weekends. Eligible candidates interested in receiving the vaccine should register with the online portal, at /make-an-appointment/.
