NASSAU COUNTY TO HONOR NUMC’S BURN CENTER TEAM THAT SAVED LONG ISLAND VETERAN SUFFERING FROM A FLESH-EATING BACTERIA 

 

East Meadow, NY……Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano will honor Dr. Louis Riina and the clinical team at Nassau University Medical Center’s Burn Center for saving the life of a veteran suffering from ”Necrotizing fasciitis,” a rare, life-threatening, flesh eating bacteria, in a press conference on Tuesday, May 22 at 10:45 am at Nassau University Medical University, located at Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow, NY.  The patient will speak for the first time thanking the local community for their support. He served active duty in Afghanistan. 

 

Patients diagnosed with the infection have a morality rate as high as 73 percent. Clinical team will describe the large increase of these dangerous infections and how people can reduce the risks of contracting them. The veteran will be officially discharged from the hospital.
