MICHELE N. BEIER, ESQ. APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF RISK MANAGEMENT AND ANNE HEUSER, RN, APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF EMERGENCY CARE SERVICES, BOTH APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED BY ARTHUR A. GIANELLI, PRESIDENT/CEO OF THE NASSAU HEALTH CARE CORPORATION


East Meadow, NY…….Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nassau Health Care Corporation is delighted to announce two recent staffing appointments, one in the division of risk management through the appointment of Michele N. Beier, Esq. as director, and the other, Anne Heuser, RN, in the department of emergency medicine in charge of emergency care services.

Anne Heuser, RN, who has served with distinction as the director of risk management during the last year, has been appointed as director of emergency care services, where she will be responsible for supervising the nursing and ancillary nursing staff in the department of emergency medicine. Mr. Gianelli stated: “I am delighted to congratulate Anne Heuser on her new appointment as director of emergency care services and wish her much success in the coming years. While serving in the risk management division, she was instrumental in improving our ability to manage potential risk issues.  A recognized leader in the nursing field, she brings energy and over fifteen years of experience in a variety of leadership roles as a nurse and nurse manager at the Nassau University Medical Center.”  Ms. Heuser is excited to return to her first love, the department of emergency medicine. She has an extensive background in legal nurse consulting and has achieved certification in this area. Ms. Heuser, in her new position, will also be responsible for compliance, regulatory and quality requirements in the department of emergency medicine.

            
In announcing the second appointment, Mr. Gianelli congratulated and wished much success to Michele Beier, Esq., who joined NHCC’s legal department this year and who will assume responsibility as the director of risk management:  “In that capacity, Ms. Beier will represent our healthcare system in working to identify problems, deal with them in order to minimize the risk of claims and lawsuits, increase safety and work to explore root cause analysis to determine why negative events occur and to prevent their reoccurrences. Ms. Beier has years of legal and health experience, having served in the New York State Office of the Attorney General where she litigated jury trials and advised hospital administrators and clinical staff on related legal issues.”
Ms. Beier will be the one responsible for reporting various incidents to the New York State Department of Health. While serving as associate counsel at the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, she provided legal advice to the professional staff, including medical, legal, bioethics, risk management and environmental issues. She has also served as a claims attorney in the risk management branch of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies Service. A graduate of Brooklyn Law School, she has also completed a two year long bioethics program sponsored by Columbia University and Montefiore Hospital and has been accepted into the 2009 week-end class Executive Master of Public Health program at Columbia University. Ms. Beier, who has lectured extensively nationwide on various health and legal topics, brings twenty-two years of extensive knowledge of legal, medicine and mental health issues as well as sensitivity to the treatment of vulnerable populations.
