MEDIA ADVISORY—NUMC MIDWIVES TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL MIDWIFERY WEEK WITH FORMER PATIENTS AND THEIR BABIES ON OCTOBER 14
WHAT: Dozens of families along with their children will help NUMC’s midwives celebrate National Midwifery Week in the newly renovated maternity floor lounge on Sunday, October 14, 2012 from 1PM to 3PM. Eleven certified midwives, with admitting privileges at the Nassau University Medical Center, where hundreds of women have had a successful water-birth attended by a midwife, will welcome their former patients and families.
WHEN: Sunday, October 14, 2012 from 1PM to 3PM
WHERE: Nassau University Medical Center, third floor lounge
WHY: Former patients and midwives will join together to celebrate National Midwifery Week and thank the NuHealth staff for their support of water-birth at the newly renovated facility. In 1999, NUMC’s clinical staff provided the leadership for an initiative to develop a water-birth facility at NUMC. Physicians in NUMC’s OB/GYN department, under the leadership of chairman Chaur-Dong Hsu, MD, MPH, FACOG, provide consultation and collaboration when requested by a midwife. NUMC has the lowest C-section rate on LI and midwives have had a positive impact on vaginal birth after C-section rate, also the lowest on LI.
