BABY FALCONS BANDING AT NUMC TODAY AT 3PM

WHO: Peregrine falcons nesting on the 17th floor window ledge at Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC). At least two, possibly three baby falcons were born this year to parents Meadow and Brook, who mate for life. Since 1997, almost sixty have been born at NUMC, including those from today.

WHAT: Banding of the NUMC baby falcons by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) on the 17th floor of Nassau University Medical Center. Chris Nadareski, biologist volunteer with the NYSDEC, will answer questions about falcons.

WHEN: 3PM Today, Tuesday, May 07, 2013

WHERE: Meet promptly at 3PM at the information desk in the lobby of NUMC and security will escort you to the 17th floor

WHY: Peregrine falcons are protected by New York State and are still listed as an endangered species. The Department of Environmental Conservation tracks the birds for historical data, such as where they were born, their age, changes in weight, etc.
