CNRN CREDENTIAL REFLECTS PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AND EXPERTISE IN NEUROSCIENCE NURSING PRACTICE, DEMONSTRATING COMMITMENT TO HIGHEST LEVEL OF QUALITY CARE FOR PATIENTS
East Meadow, NY…..Mary Ellen Samis, RN, BSN, CNRN, clinical coordinator for the NUMC neurology outpatient centers, has received notification from the American Board of Neuroscience Nursing that she has fulfilled all the requirements for the Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse program, effective October 2008, until the end of December 2013, reflecting her expertise in neuroscience nursing practice.
Angela Starkweather, PhD, RN, ANCP, CCRN, President American Board of Neuroscience Nursing stated in a letter dated December 18, 2018: “I wish to congratulate you on successfully passing the Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN) certification examination. CNRN certification status is a validation of your knowledge of neuroscience nursing and reflects a professional achievement in your specialty field of nursing.”
Neuroscience nursing practice includes clinical practice, consultation, research, administration of education in the neuroscience field. It is evidence of clinical expertise and leadership in neuroscience nursing practice. CNRN status is granted for five years and is renewed through validation of continuing education or re-examination. There are currently more than 2,500 nurses in the US who have earned the CNRN designation.

The American Board of Neuroscience Nursing (ABNN) is the independent, not-for-profit corporation established to design, implement, and evaluate a certification program for professional nurses involved in the specialty practice of neuroscience nursing. ABNN is solely responsible for the development, administration and evaluation of the certification program. Neuroscience nursing is the diagnosis and treatment of actual or potential patient and family responses to nervous system function and dysfunction across the healthcare continuum. ABNN promotes the practice and the contributions made by neuroscience nurses to the health of the nation through the certification of registered nurses.
