MARIANNE FRIERI, MD, PHD, FACAAI, FAAAAI, CHIEF OF ALLERGY AND IMMUNOLOGY AT NUMC, DEPT. OF MEDICINE INVITED TO SPEAK AT A SYMPOSIUM ON VITAMIN D IN ALLERGIC AND IMMUNE DISORDERS AT THE NATIONAL AAAAI IN TEXAS.

East Meadow, NY…..Marianne Frieri, MD, PHD, FACAAI, FAAAAI, chief of allergy and immunology at NUMC, will be presenting a symposium with a specialist physician from the University of Pennsylvania, on “Vitamin D in Allergic and Immune Disorders”, in San Antonio, Texas, on February 22, 2013.

“I am pleased to have been invited to speak at the prestigious AAAAI symposium, where I will have the opportunity to discuss important updates on the role of Vitamin D in both adults and children with asthma and other allergic disorders and discuss recent implications for allergists/immunologists,” stated Dr. Frieri.

Dr. Frieri will review several updated articles related to ensuring adequate vitamin D levels during both pregnancy and childhood may reduce the development of atopy and asthma in children, may be an important immunomodulator in allergic skin diseases and efficacy of allergen immunotherapy that correlate with levels. Dr. Frieri will also co-moderate with Audreesh Banerjee, MD, instructor, division of pulmonary, allergy and critical care medicine, department of medicine, Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia PA, who will discuss more basic immunologic science from his laboratory. Dr. Frieri had also published a paper with one of NUMC’s research physicians ( Frieri M, Valluri A. Vitamin D deficiency: A risk factor for allergic and immune mechanisms. Allergy & Asthma Proc Vol.33, Dec., 2011).
