MARIANNE FRIERI, MD, PHD, CHIEF OF ALLERGY IMMUNOLOGY AT NUMC, TO PRESENT POSTERS WITH NUMC’S MEDICINE RESIDENTS ON “PRIMARY IMMMUNE DEFICIENCIES WITH CHRONIC RHINOSINUSITIS AND MALIGNANCY, AT THE AMERICAN FEDERATION FOR MEDICAL RESEARCH
 
East Meadow, NY…..Victor F. Politi, MD, FACP, FACEP, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, announces that Marianne Frieri, MD, PhD, attending and chief of allergy and immunology at the Nassau University Medical Center, will present a symposium on Update: Primary Immune Deficiency Disorders and Chronic Rhinosinusitis and Malignancy with Joseph  Bellanti, MD, Professor of Pediatrics, Microbiology- Immunology from Georgetown  University, Washington, DC and two posters with NUMC’s  medicine residents on  ” Systemic Sclerosis,, Rhinitis,  Oral Allergy Syndrome” and “Rifampin Induced Thrombocytopenia.”


The American Federation for Medical Research (AFMR) is an international multi-disciplinary association of scientists engaged in all areas of biomedical investigation-patient-oriented, translational, and basic research. AFMR fosters research in the medical sciences, provides leadership, and publicizing aims and goals of scientific research, disseminates knowledge  of medical research, and identifies and supports efforts to achieve these objectives. Peter H. Wiernik, M.D, a medical oncologist in NY, chair of the Eastern AFMR sent a letter to Dr. Frieri: “The AFMR Eastern Region Council was very impressed with the quality of your proposed symposia”. 

Dr. Politi congratulated Dr. Frieri  in presenting this competitive symposium and assisting NUMC’s medicine residents on the upcoming posters: “You are to be commended for supporting the mission of AFMR, in promoting understanding of recent advances in biomedical science for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease, facilitating the exchange of ideas and information among physicians and other investigators who are concerned with the treatment of disease, and improving health by fostering research in all medical disciplines through public policy initiatives and educational programs.”
 
Dr. Frieri received a Ph.D. from Chicago Medical School in 1976, an M.D. from Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago in 1978. She completed her residency training in internal medicine at St. Joseph Hospital an affiliate of Northwestern University Medical Center in 1980 and a fellowship in allergy immunology in the NIAID at the NIH in 1983, prior to becoming the director of clinical immunology and allergy immunology training at NUMC.  She is triple board certified in internal medicine, allergy immunology, diagnostic laboratory immunology and professor of medicine and pathology at the State University of NY at Stony Brook and faculty at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.
 
She served on the ACAAI Board of Regents from 1994 until 1997, and on the JCAAI board of directors from 2001 until 2005 and currently serves on ACAAI committees for basic and clinical immunology, women in allergy and women’s health.  She was selected by ACAAI and AMA for the ACGME RRC, for allergy immunology, 2006-2010, and by ACAAI for the US Gloria Advisory Board in 2008-2009.  She was honored with the ACAAI in 2006 for a Distinguished Fellow Award and Women in Allergy Award in 2002 and from the AAAAI in 2003. Dr. Frieri is past president of the Long Island Allergy and Asthma Society, 1995-97 and currently serves on the board of directors and CME committee. She was nominated as president of the American Association of Certified Allergists in November, 2012 is chair of the community of practice leadership for FOCIS.
