DOZENS OF NEW MOTHERS WITH BABIES TO PARTICIPATE IN GRAND OPENING CEREMONY AT NASSAU UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER
East Meadow, NY (May 9, 2014) – Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and Presiding Officer Norma L. Gonsalves will join NUMC’s President/ CEO, Dr. Victor F. Politi, in a ribbon cutting ceremony, unveiling a new state of the art maternity center, tomorrow, May 9, 2014 at 2pm at Nassau University Medical Center. A group of new moms and babies will be attending and celebrating a pre-Mothers’ Day at the new facility.
The 2 million dollar renovation will feature a 18,000 square feet of labor and delivery suites. This includes seven rooms for low and medium risk births, three triage spaces with exam rooms with private bath rooms. There will also be two waiting rooms with a large nursing station and a lobby that is over 7,000 sq ft. A birthing suite is also being built with two rooms with tubs for underwater deliveries, to complement the existing tub room. NUMC is the only hospital in Manhattan, Queens and Long Island to offer hydro birthing as a natural alternative for low risk mothers. The maternal and new born center will also include a post partum suite for 22 beds.
The new labor, delivery and recovery center is at LI only public teaching hospital that offers services for the 1.6 million residents of Nassau County. Nearly 1,500 births take place each year at Nassau University Medical Center. The first baby born over 75 years ago at the hospital will also be in attendance at the ribbon cutting ceremony. The new moms will be presented with special gifts and flowers in honor of Mothers’ Day.
