EAST MEADOW, NY…Maggie Tetrokalashvili, MD, director of gynecology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the Nassau University Medical Center, has been elected to the American University of the Caribbean (AUC) faculty senate as the executive committee second vice president representative of the USA clinical faculty, for the term 2012-2013, where she will play an important role in further developing the connection between St. Maarten to the clinical sites in the United States. Located in St. Maarten, the AUC School of Medicine provides a high quality, internationally recognized program of medical education, with a highly regarded 500 medical science and clinical faculty members, impressive US Medical Licensing Exam passage rates and strong partnerships with residency placement sites across the US and England.
Steven J. Walerstein, MD, FACP, executive vice president for medical affairs and medical director for the NuHealth System, congratulated Dr. Tetrokalashvili: “Congratulations on your election as second vice president of the AUC executive committee of the Faculty Senate where you will represent other highly regarded faculty members who have been trained at some of the finest medical institutions in the world and who are committed teachers, scientists, scholars and physicians representing diverse backgrounds in medical research and practice. You bring a wealth of experience that will serve the Faculty Senate well in the commitment to provide rigorous training and instruction to medical students.”
In accepting her seat on the AUC Faculty Senate, Dr. Tetrokalashvili said: “I am honored to have been elected to the AUC Faculty Senate and look forward to working together with the other visionary, skilled and compassionate physicians, all dedicated to providing students of diverse background with an excellent medical education within an atmosphere of academic integrity and scholarship and with a commitment to patient care centered research, public health and community service.”
Dr. Tetrokalashvili graduated at the top of her class in 1997 at the I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy in Russia and the same year came to New York University Medical School, department of obstetrics and gynecology, for a research fellowship. In 2002, she completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine at Queens Hospital Center in New York, obtaining a Certificate of Excellence for the best research project as well as a Certificate of Excellence in laparoscopic surgery.
After a fellowship program in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, she moved back to New York where she accepted a position as a director of reproductive endocrinology and infertility, and presently is a director of gynecology at the Nassau University Medical Center. She also serves as the clerkship director for Stony Brook University, American University of the Caribbean and NY College of Osteopathic Medicine medical and physician assistant students. Recently, she was appointed as a chair of the research committee in the Ob/Gyn department at NUMC. She chairs the hospital’s undergraduate education committee.
Dr. Tetrokalashvili has built an intrauterine insemination lab, developed a busy infertility clinic, and has established close ties with IVF Centers in the area. She continue to actively perform and teach the latest minimally invasive operative laparoscopic techniques in managing the most complex infertility and gynecological problems.
In 2008, she received the prestigious award of the Attending of the Year and since 2007, has been included in the Top Obstetrician and Gynecologist listing by Consumers Research Council of America. Dr. Tetrokalashvili is a Fellow of American College of Ob/Gyn and American College of Surgeons, as well as member of AAGL, APGO, AIUM and ISUOG.
Dr. Tetrokalashvili graduated from the APGO/CREOG Academic Scholars and Leaders Program in March 2012. The 15-month program enhances education in obstetrics and gynecology by providing ob/gyn physician faculty with the additional skills and knowledge necessary to be outstanding teachers and educational administrators.
She resides in Forest Hills with her family.
