LYN D. WEISS, MD, SELECTED TO RECEIVE PRESTIGIOUS AWARD BY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGE OF MEDICINE AT SUNY DOWNSTATE MEDICAL CENTER

—Dr. Frank L. Babott Memorial Award provided  in recognition of Dr. Weiss’ distinguished service to both medical profession and general community—

East Meadow, NY……Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, announced that Lyn D. Weiss, MD, chair of the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Nassau University Medical Center, had been selected to receive the Dr. Frank L. Babott Memorial Award from the Alumni Association of the College of Medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

“You are to be congratulated upon receiving this prestigious award in recognition of your distinguished service to both the medical profession and the general community,” stated Gianelli. “This well deserved award is most impressive and a testament to your dynamic involvement in the medical profession and within your community, as demonstrated on a daily basis.”

Dr. Weiss will receive the award at the 130th Anniversary Alumni Reunion to be held on May 22, 2010 at the Marriott, Brooklyn Bridge, at which she is expected to make a brief presentation.

Lyn D. Weiss, MD, is a 1985 graduate of SUNY Downstate Medical Center School of Medicine and is board certified in both physical medicine and rehabilitation and electrodiagnostic medicine.  Dr. Weiss is professor of clinical physical medicine and rehabilitation at SUNY Stony Brook and adjunct professor of clinical physical medicine and rehabilitation at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.  
 
She served both her internship and her residency at the Nassau University Medical Center and has been chairman of the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation since 1994.  In addition to her chairmanship, Dr. Weiss is also the director of the residency training program, the director of electrodiagnostic medicine, and the former chairman of the executive committee of the medical staff.  Dr. Weiss has a strong interest in research, has written many articles, and has presented numerous lectures at the national level. Dr. Weiss has had four books published; Easy Injections, published in 2007, Easy EMG, published in 2004, Skin Care Triad, published in 2000, and Cumulative Trauma Disorder, published in 1998.  Her fifth book, The Oxford Handbook of PM&R, will be published in April 2010.  She is a mentor for the medical students at both Stony Brook and New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.


A resident of Jericho, Dr. Weiss indicated upon receiving notification of her selection: “I am humbled and honored to have been selected to receive the Frank L. Babott Memorial Award and look forward to continue working with my alumni association in the years to come.”
