LYN D. WEISS, MD, NUMC’S CHAIR OF PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION, APPOINTED TO LEAD AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION’S ESSENTIAL BENEFITS TASK FORCE
East Meadow, NY… Lyn Weiss, MD, NUMC’s chair of physical medicine and rehabilitation, has been appointed to chair the American Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation’s essential benefits task force.
This task force is charged with making recommendations to the United States Department of Health and Human Services as it relates to what should be included as essential rehabilitation and habilitations benefits in President Obama’s health care reform plan, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Lyn D. Weiss MD, chairman of the physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) department is a 1985 graduate of SUNY Downstate Medical Center School of Medicine and is board certified in both physical medicine and rehabilitation and electrodiagnostic medicine. She served both her internship and her residency at Nassau University Medical Center and has been chairman of the department since 1994. In addition to the chairmanship, Dr. Weiss is also the director of the residency-training program, and the director of electrodiagnostic medicine.
Dr. Weiss has a strong interest in research and has presented numerous papers, abstracts and research developments to Medical Society meetings and seminars and served as a manuscript reviewer for Academy publications. Dr. Weiss has had five books published; Cumulative Trauma Disorder, published in 1998 and Skin Care Triad, published in 2000, Easy EMG, published in 2004, and Easy Injections, published in 2007 and the Oxford Handbook of PM&R, published in 2010. She is a mentor for the medical students at both Stony Brook and New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Weiss is a professor of clinical physical medicine and rehabilitation at SUNY Stony Brook.
Dr. Weiss has been interviewed numerous times on both local and national television programs and local radio shows. Her peers recognize her contributions to medicine and listed her in ‘The Best Doctors in America’, ‘Who’s Who in American Women’ and ‘Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.’
