EAST MEADOW, NY…The Endocrine Society has announced that Kenneth H. Hupart, MD, FACP, Chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the Nassau University Medical Center, was elected Secretary-Treasurer by its membership. The Endocrine Society is the world’s oldest, largest and most active organization devoted to research on hormones and the clinical practice of endocrinology. It is based in Maryland, has a membership of over 14,000 scientists, physicians, educators, nurses and students in more than 100 countries.
“Congratulations on this well deserved honor go to Dr. Hupart, upon being elected to this prestigious position in the Endocrine Society, a notable recognition confirming Dr. Hupart’s commitment to furthering the goals of this respected worldwide organization,” stated Steven J. Walerstein, MD, FACP, executive vice president for medical affairs and medical director at the NuHealth System.
Dr. Hupart’s term as Secretary-Treasurer Elect will begin after ENDO 2012, the 94th annual Meeting & Expo of the Endocrine Society, in Houston, Texas on June 26, 2012. In his responsibilities as secretary-treasurer for the Endocrine Society, Dr. Hupart will further the Society’s mission, vision, and strategic plan and provide leadership in their development and effective implementation. He will also serve as the chief volunteer responsible for ensuring the financial integrity of the organization and the legal documentation of its activities. His major responsibilities include ensuring the maintenance of all official records and overseeing the development and monitoring of the annual budget. While overseeing the development and maintenance of Council policies and procedures, he will also serve as a voting member of the Executive Committee, chair of the Performance and Compensation Committee; ex officio Chair (without vote) of the Finance and Audit; ex officio member (without vote) of the Publications Core Committee; and Chair of the Investment Subcommittee.
In addition to being NUMC’s Chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism within the Department of Medicine, Dr. Hupart is also program director of the endocrinology fellowship at NUMC and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and an Affiliate Full Clinical Professor at St. John’s University, College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions.
In accepting the position of secretary-treasurer of the Endocrine Society, Dr. Hupart, a resident of Westchester, indicated: “I am honored to have been elected by my peers and I am fortunate to be able to work with such a remarkable team of officers for the Endocrine Society, who are all committed to furthering research and improving the clinical practice of endocrinology for the benefit of our patients.’
