JORGE GARDYN, MD, FACP, NUHEALTH’S DIVISION CHIEF OF OCCUPATIONAL AND CORPORATE MEDICINE TO BE HONORED BY NASSAU COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH
DR. GARDYN WILL RECEIVE A PARTNER IN HEALTH AWARD FOR HIS EFFORTS TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF NASSAU COUNTY RESIDENTS BY HIS CONTRIBUTIONS IN THE FIELD OF PUBLIC HEALTH DURING 2009
East Meadow, NY… Jorge Gardyn, MD, FACP, division chief of occupational and corporate medicine at the NuHealth System, will be honored on September 21, 2010 by the Nassau County Department of Health (NCDOH) for his contributions in the field of public health during 2009.
In a letter dated July 29, 2010, Maria Torroella Carney, MD, FACP, Commissioner of Health congratulated him: “On behalf of the Nassau County Department of Health, I would like to congratulate you. You have been selected by the Nassau County Department of Health to receive a Partner in Health Award. You have been chosen for this honor due to your efforts to improve the health of Nassau County residents by your contributions in the field of public health during 2009.”
“We congratulate Dr. Gardyn on receiving this prestigious award which is so well deserved. It is a tribute to Dr. Gardyn’s professionalism in which we take great pride,” said Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the Nuhealth System.
NuHealth’s executive vice president for medical affairs and medical director Steven J. Walerstein, MD, FACP, added: “Dr Gardyn brings a wealth of knowledge regarding all areas of community medicine and public health, affording him the unique opportunity to serve the residents of Nassau County by working to improve their health.”
Dr. Gardyn is a 1984 graduate of the Autonomous University of Guadalajara and has a long history with the Nassau University Medical Center. Dr. Gardyn completed both his Rotating Internship (Fifth Pathway) and Internal Medicine Residency at this facility in 1988, then named the Nassau County Medical Center. After residency Dr. Gardyn worked as an Emergency Room physician at Massapequa General Hospital for several years before going into private practice. In 1990 he began an Internal Medicine practice in Massapequa, and several years later started a company called Island Occupational Medical Resources, PC (IOMR). This company was founded on the premise of bringing high quality on-site medical examinations on a cost effective basis to the Fire Service of Long Island. Today, Dr. Gardyn serves on the board of the Regional Emergency Medical Advisory Council of Nassau County, is the Medical Director for the Nassau County EMS Academy, the Nassau County Fire Service Academy, and the Vocational Educational Extension Board License Practical Nursing Program.
Dr. Gardyn has also been active over the years in the teaching of medical students, residents, nurse practitioner students and physician assistant students, and has clinical academic appointments to Stony Brook University School of Medicine, New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Touro College of Health Sciences.
In 2007 Dr. Gardyn renewed his affiliation with the Nassau University Medical Center by beginning a joint affiliation between IOMR and the hospital in the creation of a Division of Occupational and Corporate Medicine. The goal of this Division was to reach out to the public and private sector of both Nassau and Suffolk County and offer a cost effective and quality based medical program to fit the needs of the corporate community.
“I am honored to receive this recognition and look forward to working collaboratively with the NCDOH in our partnership to improve the health of all the residents of Nassau County,” said Dr. Gardyn, a resident of Garden City..
