IMPORTANT INFORMATION CONCERNING NUMC’S MEDICALLY MANAGED DETOX PROGRAM
East Meadow, NY…………Beginning on the morning of July 1, 2013, the medically managed detox program at the Nassau University Medical Center will admit individuals using a telephone appointment system. People who are in need of treatment can call 516-572-6740, and inform the staff that they would like to be admitted for detox. NUMC’s detox program provides for a safe and effective withdrawal from alcohol and/or substances of addiction such as prescription medications, opiates, heroin, cocaine, pain medications, benzodiazepines (like Xanax) in order to minimize the impact of withdrawal.
The staff of the unit will take pertinent information, including a telephone number that can be used to contact the individual, and will either give an appointment for admission at that time, or call back for an appointment. The day of the appointment, the individual will present to the NUMC Emergency Room. They will be triaged and brought to the examination room where their admission will be completed.
Smoking is not allowed but we will provide nicotine patches if needed. As a medically managed service, we provide medications to help with the discomfort of the withdrawal. It is important to note that the medication will decrease, but not eliminate the discomfort. Aftercare will be addressed during the admission. If the individual is not able to make the appointment, we would appreciate a telephone call so that we may put someone else in that slot. Appointments will begin at 8am. If the individual is an hour late, he/she will forfeit their slot.
