GRAND OPENING, ON MAY 23, OF NEW $36M NUMC EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT, LATEST MILESTONE AND SIGNATURE PROJECT IN HOSPITAL’S MODERNIZATION PROGRAM

WHAT:  Joined by NuHealth’s board of directors, elected officials, community leaders and Nassau University Medical Center staff, Arthur A. Gianelli, NuHealth’s President/CEO, will celebrate the signature project in the grand opening of the new $36M emergency department, on the first floor of the NUMC, the latest milestone in the hospital’s modernization program. This first phase of the emergency department modernization, started in December 2009, marks the culmination of planning and hard work by many, ensuring that NUMC’s level I trauma center delivers the best possible care to Long Island’s most vulnerable patients.

WHY: Funded through New York State HEAL 2 and Nassau County Tobacco Securitization funds, the first phase of the new $36M emergency room, with 32 glass enclosed treatment rooms, large trauma room, two resuscitation rooms, with the latest diagnostic technology in a 320 slice CT scan, state-of-the-art monitoring equipment, in a more convenient, private and aesthetically pleasing environment, in 27,000 square feet, continues to build on performance measures in quality of care and outcome. By tripling the size, the emergency department, with 73,000 visits in 2010, has the ability to handle increased volumes in future years.
