GIANELLI TO BE HONORED AT SOUTH ASIAN COUNCIL FOR
SOCIAL SERVICES ANNUAL GALA
East Meadow, NY… Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, will be honored by the South Asian Council for Social Services (SACSS) at their annual gala on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at the Congregation Rodeph Sholom in Manhattan. Gianelli will be honored for his commitment to ensure that healthcare access is being provided to the vast South Asian community in Nassau County.
“I am honored to serve as one of the honorees at the South Asian Council for Social Services annual gala and look forward to the collaboration with SACSS in providing access to health services to underserved South Asians in Nassau County,” said Gianelli. “SACSS is to be commended for empowering underserved South Asian communities in obtaining health care services, benefits, helping their members learn English, and educating families about obesity and depression by ensuring that they know what resources are available to them.”
The South Asian Council for Social Services (SACSS), was created to empower underserved South Asians to actively engage in the civic and economic life of New York. The SACSS has expanded its services to Nassau County in collaboration with Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC), to provide much needed services to the large South Asian community that calls Nassau home. The services offered will include healthcare access, English classes, parenting classes, and information sessions on numerous topics of interest to the community.
Arthur A. Gianelli is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the NuHealth System (also called the Nassau Health Care Corporation), a $545 million teaching facility and public safety net provider which operates the Nassau University Medical Center and the A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility; co-operates four family health centers in partnership with the Long Island FQHC, Inc.; is the majority owner of South Ocean Care, Inc.; and runs one school based clinic. He has served in this position since June 1, 2006. Previously, Mr. Gianelli served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the NuHealth System. He was appointed to this position on March 8, 2006.
For the prior ten years, Mr. Gianelli served in senior executive positions for two Long Island municipalities. He was Deputy County Executive for Budget and Finance for Nassau County and Director of Operations for the Town of North Hempstead.
Mr. Gianelli serves on several boards of directors, including Regional Policy Council 2 of the American Hospital Association as well as the Executive Committees of Healthfirst and the National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems. He has delivered presentations at conferences across the country on public hospitals, health reform, and public finance. And he has received numerous professional, educational, and civic awards, most recently being designated by the Long Island Business News as one of the 20 most influential Long Islanders in 2010.
Mr. Gianelli earned a Bachelors Degree in History from St. John’s University, a Master of Arts Degree in Political Science from Brown University, a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Dowling College, and a Masters Degree in Public Health from Columbia University. In 2010, Mr. Gianelli taught healthcare economics to graduate students at Hofstra University.
Mr. Gianelli lives in New Hyde Park, New York with his wife, Nassau County District Court Judge Sharon Gianelli, and his two stepchildren, Cameron and Jessica.

SACSS is a not-for-profit organization that provides services to underserved South Asian and Indo-Caribbean communities in New York. The areas of major focus for SACSS are: healthcare access, awareness and advocacy, parent education, mental health, English classes and basic computer skills training. All our programs focus on and assist our clients with various needs in these areas, through direct services as well as referrals. We also advocate with elected officials on our community’s behalf.
