East Meadow, NY…..Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, today signed a contract with the North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA) to provide administrative leadership for the department of anesthesiology and to optimize management of the operating rooms and perioperative services at the Nassau University Medical Center. In addition to James Senterfitt, NuHealth’s executive vice president for ambulatory services and community medicine and David Manko, partner of the law firm Rivkin Radler, LLC, Gianelli was joined by NAPA officials, Timothy Dowd, MD, NAPA managing partner, Raymond Pesso, MD, NAPA partner and John DiCapua, MD, NAPA partner and vice president of anesthesiology services for the North Shore-LIJ Health System.
“NAPA is a recognized regional leader in anesthesia care, with cutting edge operating room management expertise. This relationship will support our growing surgical programs,” said Gianelli. “In addition to being highly qualified and skilled clinicians, NAPA clinicians are experts in operating room operations including flow, schedule, quality and efficiency.”
NAPA is an organization that provides anesthesia coverage in the Northeast, from Maine to New Hampshire, including most hospitals in the North Shore – LIJ Health System.
Timothy Dowd, MD, NAPA managing partner added: “We are excited with this new opportunity and look forward to a long partnership between NAPA and the NuHealth System.”
Steven J. Walerstein, MD, FACP, executive vice president for medical affairs and medical director at the NuHealth System, added: “With our growing clinical relationship with the North Shore – LIJ Health System and with the potential for a North Shore/Hofstra School of Medicine based residency program in anesthesiology, this contract with NAPA will allow us to continue to provide the most up-to-date services in quality care to our patients.”
Gary E. Bie, executive vice president for finance and CFO added: “This NuHealth/NAPA partnership marks another significant step in NuHealth’s commitment to expanding its voluntary physician relationships to effectively and efficiently deliver the most comprehensive quality care to the communities we serve.”
“In addition to providing anesthesia services, NAPA will supply a chairman for the department of anesthesiology at NUMC, helping to better manage the schedule of the operating procedures, thus enhancing our standing with the voluntary physician community. Our physicians will be part of this effort and help us to bolster and attract other surgeons, an important step going forward,” concluded Gianelli.
