GIANELLI INVITED BY ALLIANCE FOR HEALTH REFORM AND COMMONWEALTH FUND TO PARTICIPATE IN CONGRESSIONAL BRIEFING ON THE SAFETY-NET
East Meadow, NY…….Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, has been invited to participate in a congressional briefing on the safety-net, on June 4th, 2012, in Washington, DC. The Alliance for Health Reform and The Commonwealth Fund are planning a briefing for congressional staff, press and others, with a focus on safety-net hospitals.
Pamela Riley, MD, MPH, Program Officer, Vulnerable Populations for The Commonwealth Fund, stated in a recent letter in which she invited Gianelli to participate: “Thank you so much for accepting our invitation to participate on a panel at an upcoming congressional briefing on the Safety Net. At the briefing, I intend to provide a snapshot of the safety-net system, the population it serves, and the potential impact of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on safety-net hospitals. Our first panelist will be Deborah Bachrach, who will draw from her recent paper for the Commonwealth Fund Commission on a High Performance Health System on funding for safety net hospitals. In addition, we are reaching out to a Medicaid Director who can provide a picture of what their state is doing with the safety-net and how they are planning for 2014 given the anticipated changes to safety net financing. We are also seeking an Administration voice to elaborate on Medicaid and Medicare DSH payments and how the ACA affects DSH.”
Gianelli indicated: “I would be honored to serve on this congressional briefing panel, where I can bring a perspective as a safety net provider. I intend to share expertise obtained during my years as the head of a major public health system that serves Long Island’s vulnerable populations, as well as my years of governmental and financial experience, all needed for the complex challenges that we are currently facing and those that we anticipate, as health reform is implemented in 2014.”
