GIANELLI INCLUDED IN LONG ISLAND PRESS 9TH ANNUAL POWER LIST HONORING 50 MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE ON LONG ISLAND

East Meadow, NY… Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, has been selected by the Long Island Press to appear on the 9th annual Power List, honoring the 50 most influential people on Long Island.  Gianelli will be honored at this year’s celebration on Tuesday, Jun 14th, at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma at 6 p.m.

In a letter dated May 23, 2011, Long Island Press publisher, Jed Morey said: “Congratulations on being selected by the Long Island Press to appear on the 9th annual Power List, honoring the 50 most influential people on Long. Congratulations on a great year and we look forward to seeing you at the celebration.”

The Long Island Press Power List included Gianelli in the number 35 spot of Long Island’s most influential, with the following justification for his selection: “When Arthur Gianelli gave his State of the Hospital address a few weeks ago, he spoke of a “lofty ideal:” that everyone receive not adequate, but exceptional, medical care. Just a few years ago, this ideal didn’t merely seem lofty, it seemed impossible, unattainable—maybe even crazy talk for a hospital on the brink of financial collapse. But in his five years at the helm, Gianelli has taken NuHealth Systems from the gutter to the top tier. With a state-of-the-art emergency room, nationally ranked Stroke Center and a program for uninsured patients, Gianelli has not only crossed financial success and cutting-edge technology off his to-do list, he has gone the extra step to make this technology accessible to Long Island’s most vulnerable populations. By the end of 2011, he’ll open a new Eye Center and finish renovations of major units. NUMC will become one of a handful of facilities to offer 3-D tomosynthesis, the most powerful imaging technology in the country. But what makes Gianelli really powerful is his ability to make ideals, no matter how lofty, a reality.”

“I am honored and privileged to have been selected by the Long Island Press to appear on their 9th annual Power List,” said Gianelli. “I am proud to have the opportunity to lead and to oversee the growth of the NuHealth System. We have earned national recognition for improvements in the quality of care we deliver. I believe the progress of the last few critical years clearly demonstrates that NuHealth is on course for a bright future, delivering top quality health care to every patient, every time.”

Arthur A. Gianelli is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the NuHealth System (also called the Nassau Health Care Corporation), a $545 million teaching facility and public safety net provider which operates the Nassau University Medical Center and the A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility; co-operates four family health centers in partnership with the Long Island FQHC, Inc.; runs one school based clinic; is the majority owner of South Ocean Care, Inc.; and is a part owner of Healthfirst, Inc.  He has served in this position since June 1, 2006. Previously, Mr. Gianelli served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the NuHealth System.  He was appointed to this position on March 8, 2006.

For the prior ten years, Mr. Gianelli served in senior executive positions for two Long Island municipalities.  He was Deputy County Executive for Budget and Finance for Nassau County and Director of Operations for the Town of North Hempstead.

Mr. Gianelli serves on several boards of directors, including Regional Policy Council 2 of the American Hospital Association as well as the Executive Committees of Healthfirst and the National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems.  He has delivered presentations at conferences across the country on public hospitals, health reform, and public finance.  And he has received numerous professional, educational, and civic awards, most recently being designated by the Long Island Business News as one of the 20 most influential Long Islanders in 2010.

Mr. Gianelli earned a Bachelors Degree in History from St. John’s University, a Master of Arts Degree in Political Science from Brown University, a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Dowling College, and a Masters Degree in Public Health from Columbia University.  Additionally, Mr. Gianelli teaches healthcare economics to graduate students at Hofstra University.

Mr. Gianelli lives in New Hyde Park, New York with his wife, Nassau County District Court Judge Sharon Gianelli, and his two children, Cameron and Jessica.
