FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

GIANELLI ANNOUNCES NUHEALTH’S HELPING HAND PROGRAM FOR 6000 LONG ISLANDERS WHOSE UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS HAVE RECENTLY EXPIRED AND FOR THOSE WHO HAVE LOST FULL TIME WORK, TO ACCESS HEALTH CARE SERVICES AND EXPLORE INSURANCE COVERAGE OPPORTUNITIES

RIGHT THING TO DO FOR HEALTH SYSTEM WITH A PROGRESSIVE PUBLIC MISSION, UNDERSCORING VITAL ROLE PLAYED BY NUHEALTH IN HEALTHCARE LANDSCAPE OF NASSAU COUNTY

NUHEALTH WILL WORK WITH UNINSURED/UNEMPLOYED TO DETERMINE ELIGIBILITY FOR ANY AVAILABLE INSURANCE PROGRAM, HELP PROVIDE HEALTH CARE ON SLIDING SCALE AND IDENTIFY PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN

East Meadow, NY…Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, announces a “Helping Hand” program for those 6000 Long Islanders whose 99 weeks of unemployment benefits have recently expired, as well as all those who have lost full time work and who do not have any health insurance, to contact the NuHealth System for assistance in navigating their health care needs, while unemployed and uninsured.

“We want to provide a helping hand opportunity to help those who have exhausted their unemployment benefits and who no longer have any insurance coverage, to contact the NuHealth System at 516-296-CARE and we will help you access health care coverage opportunities that you may not be aware of, for you and your children,” said Gianelli. “We will work with you to determine eligibility for any available insurance program, including Medicaid, Family Health Plus, and Child Health Plus, provide you with health care through our NuCare program on a sliding scale and identify a primary care physician for an initial appointment.”

The Nassau University Medical Center staff will screen for Medicaid eligibility, provide all those who qualify with a primary care physician, if they do not have one. If they are not eligible for Medicaid, they will be enrolled in NuCare, provided with an identification card and a primary care physician, with financial assistance towards their health care payments. The applicant and his/her family will be offered the opportunity to come in for a physical and a basic health assessment.

“Offering NuHealth’s services to those who have lost their jobs, unemployment benefits and their health insurance, is the right thing to do for a health system with a progressive public mission and validates its crucial role in the healthcare landscape of Nassau County as the NuHealth System transforms itself in time for the upcoming health reform in 2014,” added Gianelli.
