East Meadow, NY …George W. Miner, MD, MBA, a member of the board of directors of the Nassau Health Care Corporation (NHCC), was recently honored at the United Hospital Fund Distinguished Trustee Awards luncheon for trustees from various metropolitan area hospitals. In congratulating Dr. Miner, Arthur A. Gianelli, NHCC President/CEO, stated: “We extend our heart-felt congratulations to Dr. Miner on his well-deserved recognition. The honorees are being recognized for their leadership, generosity, and extraordinary service to not-for-profit and municipal hospitals in New York City and nearby communities. The theme of this year’s event “Saluting exemplary service and recognizing groundbreaking partnerships improving quality and patient safety”, reflects Dr. Miner’s commitment on patient safety and focus on quality improvement at the NHCC.”
Among the award recipients are prominent leaders in business, medicine, education, and law, as well as those involved in human services and volunteerism. The thirty-nine trustees were nominated by their respective institutions, which include community hospitals, academic medical centers, and public hospitals representing all five boroughs of New York City and nearby communities in both New York and New Jersey.
George W. Miner, MD, MBA, is an investor and business advisor in Great Neck, NY. A member of the board of directors of Nassau Health Care Corporation since 2005, Dr. Miner serves on the executive, finance and facilities committees, and is the chairperson of the medical and professional affairs committee. Dr. Miner is a board certified urologist and fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He practiced urology on the North Shore of Long Island for twenty years. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia and his Master of Business Administration from the Stern School of Business at New York University. Until he left the practice of Medicine in 1997, he held the appointment of clinical assistant professor of urology at Cornell University Medical College.
“Metropolitan area hospitals have certainly faced their share of challenges this past year, and, as has happened countless times over the past 150 years, our voluntary leaders have played a key role in addressing those challenges,” said Fund President James R. Tallon, Jr. “Often, voluntary leaders are in a unique position to bring specialized knowledge and expertise to the table, to be sensitive to community needs, and to focus attention on specific issues and concerns from a different perspective. The leaders we honor today are among the region’s best at guiding their institutions when help has been needed most. That’s why we at the United Hospital Fund feel privileged to have this opportunity to recognize the exemplary efforts of this remarkable group of voluntary leaders.”
