FOUR NUMC PHYSICIANS PROMOTED TO ASSOCIATE DIRECTORS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF EMERGENCY MEDICINE
East Meadow, NY… Arthur A. Gianelli, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, announced that in anticipation of the January 2011 opening of the state-of-the art new and expanded department of emergency medicine at the Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC), Anthony Boutin, MD, chair of the department of emergency medicine, has assembled and promoted to associate directors, a team of physician leaders to assist him in the day to day management of clinical care.
“Drs. Grace Ting, David Ng, Richard Park and Tushar Kapoor are all highly qualified and well respected emergency medicine physicians, who will focus on quality, efficiency and the patient experience. We welcome them to our team and congratulate them on their promotion to associate directors of the department of emergency medicine,” said Gianelli. “They will be responsible for several key areas of the emergency department, respectively operations, quality, revenue cycle and EMS/disaster.”
Grace Ting, M.D. is a graduate of SUNY at Buffalo, School of Medicine. Dr. Ting completed her residency at St Luke’s- Roosevelt Hospital in New York City and became an attending physician in the department of emergency medicine at Nassau University Medical Center where she has worked since 1989. Dr. Ting was the medical director for Locust Valley Fire Department, a physician member for Nassau County REMAC, a chair for REMAC STEMI subcommittee. She has been a certified sexual assault forensics examiner since 2008 and a member of the NUMC stroke task force. Dr. Ting is very active in the department of emergency medicine in areas including: operations, quality assurance/performance improvement, patient issues, and development of sexual assault response team.
David Ng, M.D. is a board certified attending in the department of emergency medicine at NUMC. As the former associate director of academic affairs for the emergency department, he has worked to ensure that NUMC residents, medical and physician assistant students have successful rotations in the emergency department. While a member of the NUMC stroke task force, he was able to streamline and improve care of NUMC’s emergency department stroke patients with the assistance of registration, IT staff and other members of the stroke task force.
Tushar Kapoor, M.D. completed his residency in emergency medicine as a chief resident in Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He has authored a chapter for a board review book and had numerous publications in major emergency medicine journals. His volunteer activities include, providing medical aid and operational structure to a field hospital after the Haiti earthquake that cared for about 1,500 patients during his time there, as well as support for the Empire State Games for the physically handicapped, medical reserve corps for NYC and Red Cross Disaster Services.
Richard Park, M.D., was chief resident in emergency medicine at LIJ/Albert Einstein College of Medicine from 2002-2003. He has received numerous teaching awards, including: Teaching the Teacher Fellowship for the NS-LIJ Medical System, NS-LIJ Medical System Teaching Award, Osler Dispensary Teaching Attending of the Year Award, and Graduating Resident Teaching Award. He is co-founder and co-director of The Manhattan Written Board Review Course and co-editor of the text, Intensive Review for the Emergency Medicine Qualifying Examination.
Steven J. Walerstein, MD, FACP, NuHealth’s executive vice president for medical affairs and medical director also welcomed them to their new positions: “We are delighted that Drs. Ting, Ng, Park and Kapoor have accepted their new responsibilities as we anticipate and plan for the exciting challenge of moving to our expanded and new emergency department in January 2011. Our emergency department patients will be the beneficiaries of this great team’s experience and commitment to high quality care.”
Dr. Boutin, who has been planning for the move to the new location on the first floor at the beginning of the year 2011, said: “It is a tremendous recognition for this team of physicians, who have demonstrated a commitment to excellent patient care and strong leadership qualities in the day to day running of one of the busiest and well recognized emergency departments on Long Island.”
